Directors Statement

Trying to Remember is an experimental film created by layering and repeating 16 mm footage created from handmade film techniques including Cyanotype, home office printing, stamping, scratching and drawing.

Trying to remember the self through far away memory and unclear thoughts and during the extreme isolation of 2020.

The film was created through new techniques I was learning during quarantine to try to stay creative and keep learning and making film. The Cyanotype was printed with jewelry making tools and other art supplies and water bubbles. The Cyanotype was developed with two different color gradings. The home office printer film was created through printing images from my prior films and video and jamming the printer with the printer instructions.

The film is a document of my process of trying to remember how to be an artist. It captures faint images of my former films and arts through new processes. It captures the the jammed printer with the directions of how to print. The images are layered and repeated in varying clarity as if the memory is almost there; the thought almost complete.

With a film projector soundtrack and one film swallowing up another, it feels like trying to remember...
