Directors Statement
Does dementia deprive your freedom of self-determination?
In fiction, people with dementia are often portrayed as passive and weak-willed individuals. With "Better So" my goal is to deviate from this outdated mold by telling a story, where the amnesiac protagonist knows what they are going through and wants to live their life on their own terms.
For years I witnessed the deteriorating health of a person with Alzheimer's disease. I saw how time and place lost all meaning and how their family turned into strangers. Nobody can truly understand the anguish they are going through, not even themself. What would these people do, if they only could?
